Najma Ali is Executive Agency Counsel for the New York City Department of Social Services’ Office of Legal Affairs where she has provided agency-wide legal counsel on issues related to privacy and confidentiality, among other legal practice areas.  Najma’s prior legal experience also includes serving as Associate General Counsel in the New York City Mayor’s Office of Operations where she advised on data privacy and data security issues related to citywide data integration initiatives. Najma began her legal career practicing civil litigation for the City of New York.

Najma has been a Continuing Legal Education speaker at the invitation of the New York Unified Court System and New York State Public Welfare Association on topics including HIPAA, Data Privacy and Guardianship proceedings. Najma was also a panelist on “Practicing in the Guardianship part of the New York Supreme Court” sponsored by the New York City Bar Association. Najma was a guest speaker at the 2018 Chief Data & Analytics Government Conference where she presented on the topic overcoming data silos.

Najma received her law degree from Fordham University School of Law and her undergraduate degree from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, where she graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.  She is admitted to practice law in the states of New York and New Jersey, in addition to the United States Federal District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and District of New Jersey.
