Chief Data Privacy Officer, NYC Department of Social Services
Lauren Friedland is the Chief Data Privacy Officer and Associate General Counsel for the New York City Department of Social Services’ Office of Legal Affairs where she oversees the Office of Data Privacy. Lauren advises the Agency and provides legal counsel on issues related to data privacy and data security. Lauren began her legal career practicing civil litigation for the City of New York. In 2006, Lauren was appointed to serve as the Department of Social Services’ first ADA Compliance Officer.
Lauren has presented on data privacy issues at the New York State Capitol at the invitation of the New York State Office of Information Technology Services. Lauren was featured as a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) speaker at the New York Public Welfare Association and the New York City Department of Social Services where she presented on topics including HIPAA, data privacy and data security. Lauren was a guest speaker at the 2018 Chief Data & Analytics Government Conference where she presented on the topic overcoming data silos. Lauren also served on a panel hosted by Brooklyn Law School where she discussed the role and responsibilities of a Chief Data Privacy Officer. Lauren also serves on City Hall’s Identifying Information Law Committee.
Lauren received her undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, cum laude and her law degree from Brooklyn Law School. Lauren is admitted to practice in the New York State Courts and the United States Federal District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
