Chief Privacy & Data Ethics Officer , Highmark Health
Lisa Martinelli is vice president and chief privacy and data ethics officer for Highmark Health; the nation’s third largest integrated health care delivery and financing system, employing more than 37,000 people and serving 40 million Americans in 50 states. Lisa joined Highmark in 2002.
As Chief Privacy and Data Ethics Officer, Ms. Martinelli oversees the privacy and data governance program for the enterprise. She ensures that executive management and the Board of Directors are aware of significant privacy and data concerns and that the behavior within organization meets the standards of all relevant laws, rules and regulations, ethical principles and best practices. She also develops policies and procedures, corporate-wide training and educational programs and works closely with Highmark Health customers, IT and security areas. She sets strategic direction and analyzes issues related to information privacy, data governance, ethical use of data, cyber laws and policies.
Ms. Martinelli earned her bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and political science from the University of Pittsburgh, summa cum laude. She also received her Juris Doctor in healthcare law from the University of Pittsburgh. More recently, Ms. Martinelli has earned a master's degree in moral theology from Duquesne University, and she is a Ph.D. candidate in bioethics and healthcare ethics at the Center for Healthcare Ethics at Duquesne University focusing on organizational ethics.
