Ranjan Sinha is the Vice President of Data Engineering & DevOps at IBM. He leads the development of the Cognitive Enterprise Data Platform and manages a global team of engineers, scientists, and architects.
He is a seasoned leader and innovator in data science and engineering with a strong track record of accomplishments leading projects in industry and academia. Earlier, at eBay, he led multiple business impacting projects across several domains, including recommendations and personalization, that have significantly enhanced consumers’ shopping experiences. He has also contributed to domains such as scalable machine learning on the cloud, infrastructure availability, data lake security, and enterprise-wide identity linking.
Prior to eBay, Ranjan was a research academic at the University of Melbourne and holds a PhD in computer science from RMIT University, Australia. He has published over 30 refereed works, including in top-tier venues such as ACM SIGMOD, Bioinformatics Journal, IEEE Big Data, and VLDB journal. He won the sort benchmark medals for both JouleSort and PennySort and was amongst Wall Street Journal’s top-12 Asia-Pacific young inventors.
Ranjan frequently speaks on data sciences, analytics@scale, and big data technologies and has been an invited speaker at events worldwide. He was a panelist at the 2015 IEEE Big Data conference, interviewed by KDnuggets, presented tutorial on “E-commerce Personalization at Scale” at ACM CIKM and was a co-organizer of the popular Bay Area Search Meetup consisting of nearly 2,500 members.
