Principal Professional Officer: Data Science, City of Cape Town
Riaz Arbi is a data scientist at the City of Cape Town. His educational background is in Statistics, Economics and Philosophy. He has a particular focus on building and maintaining bare-metal data and model pipelines in resource-constrained environments. Recent projects include the building out of an isolated data science zone inside the City data center, modelling time-to-resolution probabilities of City fault requests and predicting the geographical location of safety-related incidents across the City. Before moving into data science he spent several years as an equity analyst for a boutique asset manager in Cape Town where he focused on building detailed production and financial models of South African precious metals mining companies. His preferred stack is Ubuntu, Docker, and RStudio - but Jupyter will do in a pinch.
