Richard Ellison

Deputy CFO and Chief Data Officer, Clydesdale Bank

 

Richard was Deputy CFO & CDO of CYBG (Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banking Group) between November 2014 and 31 December 2016 before starting gardening leave. He was seconded into Clydesdale Bank in June 2011 and held the roles of Financial Controller and Acting CFO & CDO prior to becoming Deputy CFO & CDO. Before joining the Bank Richard was a Director in PwCs banking and capital markets practice servicing institutions including Barclays and Nationwide. He has over 19 years of experience in the financial services industry.

 

 With his background in assurance and finance Richard brings a business focus to the role of CDO encouraging a whole institution approach to the use, custody and control of data looking through the lenses of customer, capital and cost. He is passionate about the need for data to be owned and understood by business users and seeks to act as a translator between IT & data professionals and the end user community. Richard is currently passionate about challenging data professionals thinking – seeking to broaden their focus from narrow delivery success to the ethical as well as economic impacts of Machine learning and AI.
