Thelma Kganakga joined RMB as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) on 1 June 2018. She is responsible for ensuring that RMB’s cyber and information security needs are addressed.
Thelma brings with her a wealth of experience in the ICT and Financial services industries where she held various leadership roles, which include being Executive for Enterprise Information Security at South African Revenue Services, Head of Information Security, Governance and Risk at Ubank, Divisional Chief Operating Officer at ABSA, Associate Director at KPMG and ran her own businesses (Shaya Infosec and GnT Solutions) offering Information Security services. She is a professional leader with strong technical and business skills and has successfully implemented strategies that achieved business outcomes in the organisations she has worked for.
Thelma holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Gordon Institute of Business Science and BCom Honours Informatics from University of Pretoria. She writes for the Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA) on a quarterly basis and has contributed as a subject matter expert to the South Africa Risk Report 2016 on one of the Top 10 Industry Level Risks - 'Massive Incident of Data Fraud/ Theft'.
Thelma participates on committees of industry bodies which included the IT Security Expert Panel of the OECD’s Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes since Dec 2016 (This now ended with her departure from SARS to RMB), Risk Intelligence Committee of IRMSA and SABRIC’s Cyber Crime Steering Committee.
