Minna Kärhä

Data Strategy Lead

Solita

It is time to rethink data competencies and organization! Getting business value from data is a team sport where the team is the whole organization. The ball-throwing between teams (IT, business units, analytics...) must come to an end.

Recognizing the potential and using data in the right manner (secure, ethical, compliant, and explainable) is the citizen skill of today and the future!

Having worked with data since 1999 (the first task being the Millenium conversions in a DW) I have lived through a significant transformation, gaining valuable experience.

Data has come far from the reporting Data Warehouses storing data and Business Controllers translating it for the rest of the organization, moving from in-house data centres into the cloud and data & analytics talent spreading across organizations.

Now everyone is a citizen data analyst, which sets new demands also for being able to find, access, understand and trust the data. There is a transformation happening in the workforce as new, data-savvy generation has entered the work market, disrupting the ways legacy organizations are working.

Data is created in digital world from every human, and machine, action and it needs to be usable right from the start for various tasks and decisions. Citizen data analysts form a data-driven organization where fact-based decision-making is valued over intuition and industry experience. And identifying opportunities to enhance business, drive better performance and customer engagement based on captured data, is in the heart of business development. Focus is in the business value and in the people (customer, employees).

Business-driven data management, Data Literacy, and Data Culture, and Design Thinking, are the most critical elements for modern-day organizations to survive and succeed.
