Interview with former AIG Canada COO Marc Lipman

Marc Lipman, former Chief Operating Officer at AIG Canada, talks about how the growth of the data and analytics industry is creating opportunities for insurance companies to improve their underwriting and claims handling processes.

“I think one of the systemic challenges for the insurance industry is that people don’t like the claims process,” he says. “What we are trying to do is improve that entire process. One of the ways we can do it, one of the tools we can use is analytics.

“We are relying on analytics now to help support straight through processing of claims, which results in faster claims adjudication and settlement,” he adds. “Now, we are on the verge of the point where, for at least certain kinds of claim, people can file their claim in the form they want.”
